Braces Friendly Holiday Recipes

Braces-Friendly Recipes for the Holidays

While most of us cannot wait to dig into all the delicious holiday foods that are typically served at this time of the year, those of you wearing braces which are cemented to your teeth must be very mindful of what you eat. When your orthodontist placed your braces on your teeth, we told you how important it was to steer clear of braces-busting foods that are hard, sticky,  gooey or crunchy. To ensure you don’t feel left out this holiday season, here are a few braces-friendly recipes, brought to you by your team at Bowers Orthodontic Specialists!

Easy Cinnamon Baked Apple Slices

Nothing smells as nice as cinnamon apples baking in the oven during the wintertime! This recipe is easy to make and very delicious!

Ingredients:

6 apples, peeled, cored and sliced

1 teaspoon butter

2 tablespoons brown sugar

3 teaspoons vanilla sugar

1 teaspoon ground nutmeg

3 teaspoons ground cinnamon

3 ½ tablespoons water

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350. Grease a large baking dish using the butter. Then in a big bowl, mix together the brown sugar, vanilla sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Then layer about one-third of the apple slices in the baking dish. Sprinkle with one-third of the sugar mixture. Repeat layers two more times. Bake the apples for about one-half hour. Pour the water over the apples and continue baking until completely tender, about 15 minutes more.

Holiday Tree Brownie Lollipops

Not all lollipops are off-limits when you’re wearing braces. These brown lollipops are not hard or sticky and are a fun treat to make for the whole gang, including your friends and family members not wearing braces!

Ingredients:

Pre-made brownies (without nuts) either home-baked, store-bought or from your favorite bakery.

Can of pre-made frosting (Tip: Buy white frosting and then add a few drops of green food coloring and mix to make green holiday trees).

Candy sprinkles

Directions:

Cut the brownies into triangles and brush off the excess crumbs. Then push a colored, stiff straw or flat popsicle stick into one edge of each triangle as far as it will go without poking through the other side. If you used straws, clip the ends off the straws to make lollipop sticks. Then frost your ‘holiday trees’ with your favorite frosting and decorate them with the candy sprinkles.

Directions:
